General Manager - Finance

A.P Eagers Limited (APE) is an ASX listed company with a market capitalisation in excess of 1.7 billion with a very strong track record of profit growth and increasing shareholder returns. APE currently has approximately 5% of the new car market and plans to significantly increase its market share over the next 5-7 years through organic growth and acquisitions. We are looking for a talented individual to fill the role of the General Manager of Finance for the automotive car retail businesses located in South Australia.  Combined, the businesses generate in excess of $570 million of sales across a range of branded car dealerships.

The role will report to the Regional General Manager located in Adelaide.  You will assume a lead role in the finance function of APE with a focus on reporting, analysis and business partnering. The role will include:

  • Provide strategic, commercial and financial analysis and guidance to the General Managers and Dealer Principals.  Strong business analysis skills – knowing the right questions to ask to dig deep into the numbers and identify the issues, risks and opportunities and determine solutions. 
  • Leading the charge with strategic & commercial support that provides insights and analysis that is always evolving and challenging the operational and finance teams.
  • Work with the General Managers to hold monthly operational management meetings which deliver agreed action plans for operational improvement and foster ideas sharing around the group.
  • Provide financial oversight and support which includes financial reporting, management, budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning and developing a strong internal control environment. 
  • Oversee and manage the financial well-being of the Group including the provision of accurate and timely results for operational and corporate accounting purposes in accordance with APE deadlines and policies.
  • Provide financial and operational guidance and support in the strategic direction, development and implementation of new businesses, products and brands.
  • Work collaboratively with Corporate Finance team to ensure that the external audit requirements and obligations are satisfied for the Group.
  • Ensure sound governance, risk management and controls framework is being maintained within the dealerships.
  • Work collaboratively with the Internal audit team to ensure audit requirements are adequately adhered to.
  • Provide oversight, accountability and performance management of 10 dealership financial controllers in the region.

Experience:

This is a senior role within the overall APE Group finance function. You must be prepared to get into the detail yourself to understand the business then design and implement change in the finance function.  You will bring to the position:

  • Professional accounting qualifications to CPA/CA level. Finance management experience, ideally gained through 10+ years practical experience, coupled with strong technical skills, is essential for success in this role.
  • Proven capability of effectively leading and inspiring finance functions to meet the company's short and long term aims, with added experience of change management in these environments.
  • Strong practical knowledge and experience in financial reporting processes and systems.
  • An appropriate level of understanding of business fundamentals along with experience in formulating corporate and commercial strategy.
  • Excellent judgment, commercial acumen and persuasive ability along with sound communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to, build and maintain strong working relationships with people at various levels.
  • Experience in Motor Vehicle industry would be highly regarded.
